Summary -
NEC’s Advanced Recognition Systems division is the NEC Global Centre of Excellence for Biometrics and is looking to add a talented Solutions Engineer to provide pre-sales technical support across its biometric solution suite.  Solutions Engineers utilize their technical, product, and domain knowledge to provide expertise and guidance to sales staff and customers throughout the lifecycle of a project.  They are a critical piece to organizational and customer success. 
 
The successful candidate will join our growing team in Europe, and help us develop our biometric solutions business with government, aviation and law enforcement agencies in the European, Middle East and African marketplaces.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities -
  • Provides general pre-sales technical support to Account Managers throughout the opportunity lifecycle
  • Provides onsite and/or remote customer-facing presentations and demontrations
  • Consults with customers to understand their business needs and how NEC’s solution offerings can meet them
  • Designs and documents proposed solutions and associated architecture
  • Stays current on the competive landscape to properly understand NEC solution strengths and differentiators
  • Continously buids NEC product, biometrics, and market domain expertise
  • Assists with requirements gathering for creation of Scope of Work and Technical Requirements Documenation
  • Develops strong working relationships with partners, consultants, and customers at a technical level
  • Serves as the technical liason between Sales personnel, Engineering teams, and Product Management
  • Responds to the technical and/or product related portions of RFPs and other customer/consultant questionnaires
  • Actively collects customer and market-driven feedback and requirements for consideration within product roadmap(s)
  • Is able to work both collaboratively and independently with minimal guidance
 
 
Prerequisites -
Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or similar plus a minimum of 6 years experience; advanced degree desirable
Experience: 6 or more years of customer-facing sales/solutions engineering experience representing biometrics and/or enterprise software solutions. 
Certifications, Licenses, etc: VMware/Azure and other technical certifications a plus but not required
     
 
Specialized Knowledge and Skills -
Language Skills: High level of both written and spoken English. Excellent communication/presentation skills and organizational ability required.  Presents oral and written communications in a professional and concise manner.
Mathematical Skills: Solid mathematical skills required
Reasoning Skills: Ability to recognize problems, identify and analyze underlying causes, and implement appropriate solutions independently.
Computer and/or Technical Skills:
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Other desired skills:
  • Certifications and/or experience with VMware and other virtualization platforms
  • Certifications and/or experience with Microsoft Azure and other cloud platforms
  • Experience representing SaaS solutions
  • Technical proficiency within Windows and Linux environments
  • Familiarity with Docker and containerization
  • Basic networking knowledge
  • Proficiency across the Microsoft Office 365 suite of applications
 
  • Understanding of the international aviation industry
  • Understanding of European and International interfaces and systems such as VIS, SIS, Eurodac, Interpol etc
  • Understanding of modern biometrics technologies, face, fingerprint, palm and iris
  • Experience with JIRA and/or Microsoft TFS
  • DevOps experience

General Work Environment: Office environment

Standing/Lifting: Minimal
Visual: Must be able to read small text accurately.
Stress: Medium.  Must be able to work independently with minimal guidance.
Travel: Up to 50%
