Global Open RAN Centre of Excellence (CoE)
We have established the Global Open RAN Centre of Excellence (CoE) in the U.K. to accelerate the global adoption of Open RAN and to further strengthen its structure for accelerating the global deployment of 5G.

This new CoE is responsible for business and solution development, product development support, project execution and technical support for NEC's global Open RAN business. It will form the backbone of NEC’s global project delivery capability, building on the company’s long-term experience in communication, across the globe.

The Job
NEC is looking for creative, people-oriented and technical professionals who are passionate and results driven to strengthen the COE organization. This position can be located anywhere in Europe in one of our offices or working from a suitable home office.

As part of the 5G CoE System Engineering team in NEC Europe, the Engineering Programme Manager plays a key role, managing complex integration programmes with the ecosystem partners to ensure successful, on time delivery to the Customer Engineering teams and NEC’s programmes. Of course, NEC will provide you with the required training on the products, solutions and technologies enabling you to grow and develop the specialist knowledge required to serve our customers according to the highest standards for which NEC is known.

We operate hybrid working at our office in South Ruislip; 3 days are based on site and 2 at home.  We pay an allowance to cover your expenses whilst working at home.  Weekly hours are 35 hours per week.  The role comes with good holidays and various benefits, including private medical insurance.

 Key Responsibilities
  • Work with the Business Development, Customer Engineering and Operation teams to define, prioritise and schedule programme activities and deliverables for the successful achievement of NEC’s 5G CoE objectives
  • Communication of the relevant programme milestones to internal and external teams that are contributors to, or customers of the programme
  • Creation of and ownership of an overall 5G CoE Engineering programme plan for agreed activities, taking responsibility for the successful on time delivery
  • Regular and accurate reporting of the programme status to internal and external stakeholders including the NECE Engineering Programme Director and the NEC Senior Management teams on status of activities
  • Proactively identify programme risks, proposing appropriate mitigations and where necessary escalating appropriately to Senior Management to allow informed decisions and actions to be taken.
  • Tracking of technical issues impacting the Programme, working with stakeholders to find effective solutions and monitoring the progress to resolution.
  • Creation of and maintenance of engineering programme budgets, tracking and reporting on the engineering costs and ensuring adherence to agreed budgets
  • Identify, define and communicate system/process improvements to increase the programme and operational efficiency of the 5G CoE teams

Skills & Experience Required
  • 5+ or more years’ recent experience in a technical programme management role with both schedule and budget responsibility
  • Experienced in risk identification, mitigation and management of programme risk
  • Ability to understand complex technical issues when identified, their potential impact to the overall programme and the appropriate identification of recovery actions to ensure schedule impacts are minimized
  • Experience of third-party supplier management
  • Solid background knowledge of Radio Access Network technology and architectures (2G, 4G, 5G)
  • Knowledge in OpenRAN architectures and protocols between RU, DU and CU would be an advantage
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbally) and the ability to effectively explain complex details to others is essential
  • Qualification in formal project management methodologies would be beneficial
  • Ability to quickly grasp and adapt to new technologies and concepts.
  • Ability to work flexibility, taking ownership for the engineering function and demonstrate ability to take on additional tasks to achieve project deadlines.
