NEC Telecom MODUS Ltd. is developing base station technology to be used in “5G” mobile telecommunications systems based on the requirements of mobile operators to support super high speed mobile data, ultra-reliable low-latency communications and massive numbers of IoT devices.

NEC Telecom MODUS Ltd has been developing mobile wireless technology for over 20 years and our output has found its way into many operators’ networks in Japan and around the world.  Our technical teams have a wealth of mobile network knowledge and experience, and NEC Telecom MODUS staff members represent NEC on international standards bodies and industry forums.

Role:
A vacancy has arisen for the role of the 3GPP RAN WG3 Standardization expert, to attend 3GPP RAN WG 3 meetings and contribute to the standardization of NEC 5G technology and solutions.

Key responsibilities:
The key responsibilities will be to:
  1. Investigate technology concepts for 5G technology (Release 17 and beyond) and prepare internal reports and presentations.
  2. Participate in the brainstorming sessions for technology concept / idea generation in the 5G domain
  3. Prepare 3GPP meeting contribution documents (Tdocs, CRs) considering the result of internal investigations
  4. Attend 3GPP RAN WG3 standardisation meetings and present NEC contributions
  5. Draft 5G technology patents and work to secure NEC intellectual property into 3GPP and other related standards.
  6. Analyse and report on the contributions submitted by other companies into RAN WG3
  7. Prepare 3GPP meeting reports and de-brief NEC internal teams
  8. Follow 5G technology developments in other 3GPP WG and related organisations
  9. Collaborate with NEC standardisation delegates in 3GPP and other related forums like ORAN, TIP, Small Cell Forum, ETSI NFV
  10. Support other engineering and customer facing teams on topics related to 3GPP standardization eg for reviews, technical Pre sales or trouble shooting
Knowledge and Experience:
The successful candidate must have:
  1. Deep understanding of the 3GPP mobile telecommunications system and excellent knowledge of 5G, LTE and LTE Advanced RAN 3 specifications and functionality
  2. Excellent knowledge of 5G, LTE and LTE Advanced architectures
  3. Experience of attending 3GPP RAN working group standardisation meetings
  4. Experience of preparing and presenting 3GPP contributions and getting agreement on them so they can go into 3GPP Technical Report /Technical Standards (Tdocs, CRs drafting and presenting)
  5. Experience of patent filing for 3GPP and /or other wireless technologies
Capabilities:
The ideal candidates will bring to the team deep knowledge of 5G standards and related specifications as well as a background in LTE, UMTS or other radio or wired network telecoms technology.  
The role will involve representing NEC Telecom MODUS and as such a common sense and logical approach to problem resolution is required.
The role requires the ability to think creatively and clearly about problems, generating and presenting possible solutions for review. 
We are looking for motivated persons who are able to work pro-actively and with determination under minimum supervision, prioritising between tasks and managing their own time.  Effective oral and written communication skills are required as well as an ability to work well as part of a team. 
Work is done within an ISO 9000 QA system where we continually look for ways to improve quality and efficiency.
Availability to travel and be away for overseas meetings (approximately 6 times per year for up to 1 week) is required.

Qualifications:
Good honours degree or higher in Communications, Electronics, Physics, Computing or Maths.
