The Security group (SEC) is considered one of the pioneers in Europe in the area of security and privacy R&D. The group leverages the expertise of its top researchers in the fields of cloud security, blockchain security, system security, and applied cryptography in order to forge more opportunities for commercial, scientific and innovational breakthroughs and applications. The security group regularly contributes to top tier conference and journal publications, such as ACM CCS, Usenix Security, Journal of the ACM, IEEE TDSC, among others.

We are looking for a software engineer / software specialist to contribute to development in the areas of security and privacy. Our work ranges from foundational research and IPR creation to prototype development for transfer to NEC products and services

We support individual creativity, strong teamwork as well as scientific publications. English is the working language in the Laboratories. Initially, this position is limited to two years.

NEC Laboratories Europe is located in Heidelberg - one of Germany’s most beautiful and idyllic towns. The area offers a number of exciting cultural, entertainment, and outdoor activities.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in software development including strong experience with programming languages, such as Golang, Java, or C/C++.
  • Experience in system security, security protocols, privacy enhancing technologies, access control, and software security.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English.
  • Experience in open source development is a plus.

Fresh MSc candidates with a hands-on approach are preferred.  Candidates are encouraged to submit code samples from past projects as part of the application material.
