Group Tax Accountant

Description
The key responsibilities of the Group Tax Accountant, but not limited to:
  • Support head of tax to further build and develop the Group tax function
  • Manage Group tax in the broadest sense, predominantly focussed on (international) corporate tax, employment tax, withholding tax and VAT
  • Provide tax advice to senior internal stakeholders
  • Manage tax in case of mergers and acquisitions and other restructuring transactions within the European group.
  • Manage Transfer Pricing in the European region and take lead on TP documentation and CbCr processes (with head office in Japan)
  • Set up correct group tax processes, standards and controls to be compliant with new regulations
  • Build relationships and interact with internal stakeholders and manage external stakeholders and advisors to provide value add tax planning, consulting and expertise
  • Be the Centre of Excellence and Business Partner for Tax for the European group
  • Identify and mitigate future tax and compliance risks.
  • Manage and take the lead on the delivery of a wide range of tax services in compliance with laws and regulations within required timeframe.
  • Manage tax compliance processes and deadlines for the group (UK and European jurisdictions), undertaking a coordination and review role for the provision of such services by third party advisors.
  • Manage tax provisions (prepare IFRS provisions for quarterly and annual reporting process), including ad-hoc requests for tax information and status updates.
  • Collaborating/co-ordinating with the wider finance team within the Group to support tax relevant financial reporting processes
  • Manage and coordinate tax audits in UK and European countries
  • Support the annual statutory account (tax) processes
  • Manage Intercompany agreements for the European group
  • Work closely together with the European VAT specialist
  • Coach and develop accounting teams to improve their direct tax knowledge and to deliver standardardized and compliant ways of working.
Profile
The successful candidate for this Group Tax Manager role
  • Qualified tax accountant or tax advisor.
  • Extensive relevant experience gained in practice or industry (or combination).
  • Proven track record in corporate tax, employment tax, WHT, VAT including a knowledge of cross-border tax issues.
  • The ability to understand and explain technical tax issues.
  • An understanding and ability to quantify, communicate and manage tax risk.
  • Strong IT skills and experience with accounting reporting systems (SAP)
  • Effective communicator; able to build strong relationships with colleagues in other countries and departments and with third party tax advisors.
  • A desire to identify improvements and drive change; demonstrating a 'can do' attitude
  • A team player but able to work standalone and take ownership and responsibility of tasks and processes
  • Be confident and comfortable with a fast paced, fluid and volatile work environment
  • Comfortable communicating and collaborating with pan European colleagues and Japanese parent company,
  • Comfortable handling documentation in other languages
  • Outside the box and solution driven thinking
  • Command of an additional (European) language is advantageous
  • Willing to travel to relevant countries when requested/required
  • Perseverance, agility and flexibility are key to success
